Woodturning – The Inverted Bottle Stopper

Birch · ·

Solve the problem of a bottle stopper too tall to fit in a refrigerator.

Almost all accessory bottle stoppers fail at being low profile. They may look terrific. With a quality tip they may have an excellent seal. However, the stopper can also add three to four inches (7.6 cm – 10.2 cm ) to the height of an already tall bottle. This makes the bottle a challenge to store, especially in a refrigerator.

Hand turned bottle stoppers with a quality tip are superior to the caps found on most liquor bottles. They are also far better than trying to jam a wine cork back into the bottle the cork was pulled from in the first place. But like commercially available  bottle stoppers, they too are quite tall. Now what?

I make what I call an ‘inverted bottle stopper’. This style of bottle stopper reduces the height of a hand turned bottle stopper to roughly that of a vacuum wine stopper. Now you can have a decorative, well sealed bottle and store it too. 🙂
